Jewellery for special occasions

When a special occasion occurs the usual gift is one of jewellery. There are many different types of jewellery suited for all ages and for men, women and children. It can be something intended for wear on very special occurrences or it can be a piece that one can wear every day.

Engagement Rings
An engagement ring is a promise to marry. When a couple plans to marry, the lady wears an engagement ring to show that she is attached to another. The most common type of metal for this ring is gold, either yellow or white, and the gemstone is generally a diamond. However, there are other metals available, such as platinum and titanium, which are longer lasting and also more expensive. Even though the most popular gemstone is the diamond, many women choose other gemstones, such as a rubies, pearls, emeralds and opals.

Wedding Rings
Both men and women wear wedding rings and there are many styles to choose from. Some prefer a simple band of gold whereas others like to have the ring inlaid with precious stones. The best type of metal for a manís wedding ring is one made from platinum or titanium because of the hardness of the metal. Such rings will stand up to the rigors of everyday wear if the man works in a field that involves the use of heavy equipment, such as in the construction industry.

Birthday gifts
As a birthday gift, jewellery of all kinds makes an excellent choice. An older lady might enjoy a bracelet, pendant or a brooch. A gold chain with a small stone attached is very elegant indeed. Young ladies love charm bracelets to which they can attach charms of various shapes. Each charm can have a special significance for the wearer.

At one time earrings were a gift reserved only for women. However, men now have various piercings so there is nothing wrong with giving an earring as a gift to a man on your list who does wear this jewellery.

Bracelets are available for the ankle as well as the wrist. They can be wide or narrow bangles and come in a variety of sizes. It is very easy to decide on a gemstone for a piece of jewellery intended as a birthday gift because there are stones associated with all months of the year and the signs of the Zodiac.

Childrenís Jewellery
A gift of jewellery is very common for a babyís birth or baptism. Such a gift is meant to be a keepsake although you can put a bracelet or a ring on a baby for a special occasion. Earrings for little girls are widely available. Most parents now have their daughterís ears pierced at a very young age.

Anniversary Gifts
It is easy to choose a piece of jewellery for an anniversary gift if the event is a 25th, 50th or 60th anniversary. Silver is the metal of choice for the 25th anniversary, gold for the 50th and diamond for the 60th. However, it is also common to give jewellery for any anniversary and the wide choice of gemstones available mean that you could give a different one each year.
